FAITHFUL RESISTANCE: Seeking the Way of Jesus Together
When faith is used as a weapon, the only faithful response is resistance.
Something has gone wrong with American Christianity.
Many people who once found comfort in the Church now find themselves heartbroken by what it has become. The rise of Christian nationalism has left countless believers—and former believers—wondering how the message of love, mercy, and humility became entangled with power, fear, and exclusion.
In Let There Be Light: The Quest for Truth, Angela M. Becek invites Christians to reclaim their faith from the grip of nationalism and biblicism as she explores the opening chapters of Genesis while blending history, theology, and personal reflection. Together, you’ll learn how biblicism and ideology have distorted the Gospel—and discover how critical, courageous engagement with Scripture can lead us back to love, peace, and purpose.
Whether you’re still in the pews, standing at the margins, or unsure what you believe anymore, Let There Be Light welcomes you into a thoughtful conversation about truth, hope, and what it really means to walk in the way of Jesus.

About the series, from the author:
Resisting racial hierarchies, patriarchy, authoritarianism, oligarchy and monarchism is not leftist ideology. We resist these systems of inequality because we are Christian.
To use biblical language, these systems of inequality are “the ways of the world.” They are the ways of Empire.
Unfortunately, much of American Christianity has been deceived into believing that the God of Empire is the God of Jesus and that the political implications of Scripture are to be ignored.
It’s easy to pull Bible verses that support the ways of Empire, but what the Bible reveals is that those who wrote it, an oppressed indigenous people, believed that the Most High God was on their side, and fought with them against the powers of this world, the powers of Empire.
My mission is to offer a more faithful lens through which to read and understand the Bible - as resistance literature. This is not ideological or political, it is spiritual. It’s about resisting power structures that fail to see the image of God in one another, wherever they present themselves.
I am not the first person to bring this perspective, but because it’s new to me, I want to do the hard work and explore it myself. I also recognize that I am not oppressed, so I approach the text as an outsider and one considered by some to be a traitor.
I do not advocate for violence, but repentance. I ask that people consider new information, be open to changing their minds, then turn and go in a new direction.
My work is for you if you reject the ways of Empire and want to explore how an oppressed people living 2500 years ago came to believe that the Most High God of the universe was on their side; then changed their beliefs and accepted that the freedom and salvation “their” God offered was open to all.
It is not merely a political exercise, it is a spiritual journey. It is both/and. We will not exclude one for the other.

THE ALT KING IS BORN: Rejoice and Do Not Be Afraid Book Two of FAITHFUL RESISTANCE: Seeking the Way of Jesus Together
Who is Jesus—really?
In a world where Christian nationalism is reshaping public life and redefining faith, many believers find themselves caught between the Jesus they long to follow and the distorted image promoted in the name of power. This shift in theology has left countless Christians wondering how the humble teacher from Nazareth became a symbol of control, fear, and exclusion.
In The Alt King Is Born: Rejoice and Do Not Be Afraid, Angela M. Becek invites readers back to the beginning—to the birth narratives and early chapters of the Gospels—to rediscover who Jesus is and what his kingship actually means against the competing narrative of Empire. Through historical context, theological insight, and honest reflection, Becek exposes how biblicism and ideology have overshadowed the message of Jesus, replacing compassion with conquest.
This book challenges the assumptions of a “high view of Scripture” that elevates select passages over the teachings of Christ himself. Instead, it offers a courageous, faithful exploration of Advent—one that embraces mystery, questions, and hope.
Whether you are devoted, doubtful, or somewhere in between, The Alt King Is Born welcomes you into a richer understanding of Jesus—one rooted not in dominion but in love, humility, and the liberating way of Christ.
Come and rediscover the Alt King—and the good news we all should embrace.

Faithful Resistance
In everything do to others as you would have them do to you, for this is the Law and the Prophets.
- Jesus, Matthew 7:12 (NRSVUE)
God is love, and those who abide in love abide in God, and God abides in them. Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness on the day of judgment, because as he is, so are we in this world. There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear; for fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not reached perfection in love. We love because he first loved us. Those who say, “I love God,” and hate a brother or sister are liars, for those who do not love a brother or sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen. The commandment we have from him is this: those who love God must love their brothers and sisters also.
- 1 John 4:16-21 (NRSVUE)
Resisting Biblicism, Elevating Jesus.
Faithful Resistance is choosing love over fear.
Love thy neighbor - this is Faithful Resistance.
Our natural impulse is to fear our neighbors and those who seek power in this world exploit those fears.
The Way of Jesus is to love our neighbors, the marginalized, and even our enemies. Love is an act of resistance.
Resistance calls us to believe that those who have been deceived can be redeemed and our belief in redemption keeps our hearts from becoming hardened. When we give up that hope of redemption, we give into fear.
Resistance is not passive. It demands we speak the truth in a world of lies, we love those who would do us harm, and that we do not lose hope.
Perfect Love casts out all fear.
Join the Faithful Resistance, the Way of Jesus, which is the sum of the Law and the Prophets of Old.
